These are some of the most uncommon fish in Cozumel, some you may know, but please put attention to them because they are not in every reef, some can be confuse with other species, but believe me after 4 years of doing survays, I know they are not that common.
This is an effort to show you what not many dive masters will be able to show you.

Black Fin Snapper
These three little fish are not very common but have seen them in small schools on several sites, including the ship wreck (where I counted 20 of them recently) and the "ruins" of Puerta Maya cruise ships pier. Now what's amazing of them is that once they have reach the adult phase (about 2-21/2 inches) besides turning into a pinkish-redish color they swim to the depth of 200 to 300 feet, and when they are born and are babys and teenagers they live in 30 to 70 feet depths, bu their color is white-butterish.
This particular picture is a very nice one, taken by Don Antonio Guerra from Teneriffe, Canary Islands. Their name of Black Fin (Lutjanus buccanella)comes from the small black spot underneath their pectoral fin, do not confuse them with the Yellow tail snapper which we have tons of them everywhere or the yellow goat fish, which has different shape. The yellow line on these starts on the tail and end up at the end of their dorsal fin, this yellow line and the black spot never goes away, seems like only the butterish color turns into pink or even maybe red.
